10 Tips For Crisis Prevention Risks of Restraints
When an individual being restrained is placed in a position in which they cannot breathe properly, they may suffer restraint-related positional asphyxia. The result is that the restrained individual my be unable to take in enough oxygen and this can lead to disturbance in the rhythm of their heart, and in extreme circumstances, death.

To reduce the possibilities of injury during restraint, staff members need to be trained in safer ways of restraint. Furthermore, they must understand which restraint techniques pose the greatest risk to those in their care.

This handbook draws upon CPI's considerable research into this subject and answers the most common queries about physical restraints as well as offering advice on ways to avoid restraint-related positional asphyxia.
